Monaco Clean Beaches
Originally named “Clean Beaches operation” this programme has been reintroduced under the name « Monaco Clean Beaches » for the 3rd year running in Monaco in 2012.
In 2010, the Municipality and Monaco’s S.M.A (sanitation and waste disposal company) have entered into a partnership for the dissemination of beach ashtrays during the summer season.
It had become obvious to the Municipality that it had to make the public aware of beach cleanliness issues and the avoidance of acts of incivility such as the disposal of cigarette butts directly onto the sand, as much as possible.
Thence, no less than 7,800 ashtrays have already been placed on beaches since the introduction of this programme.
In 2012, the Department of Tourism and Congresses of the Principality joined in the operation. As part of the « Monaco Clean Beaches » operation, 4,000 ashtrays will be distributed every week-end of May and June and every day of July, August and September, during the summer of 2012.
The purpose of this campaign is to witness a diminished number of cigarette butts in the sand and to preserve the quality of our beaches.
